Choose creamy pumpkin, frosty purple grape or a fizzy cherry float for your Halloween party. These three alcohol-free drinks use familiar ingredients and make two servings each, with complete quantities and methods below.

The pumpkin milkshakes and cherry floats each take an estimated five minutes; the grape slush takes about ten minutes with already-frozen grapes. Fresh grapes need at least four extra hours in the freezer. These existing Fondfolk recipe-development formulas have not been kitchen-tested; all preparation times are estimates.

1. Pumpkin Patch Milkshakes

Makes 2 milkshakes • estimated 5 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin purée (not pie filling)
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, divided

Method

  1. Add the ice cream, milk, pumpkin purée, maple syrup and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon to a blender.
  2. Blend briefly, until smooth and thick, scraping down once if necessary.
  3. Divide between two glasses of at least 400 ml capacity. Sprinkle with the remaining 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and serve immediately.

Use pumpkin purée, not pie filling

Plain pumpkin purée leaves the sweetness and spice in your control. The full half-teaspoon of cinnamon is divided: one quarter-teaspoon goes into the blender and the other quarter-teaspoon is sprinkled over the two finished drinks. Measure that total once so you do not accidentally add a second full dose.

Choose room for a thick shake

Use glasses with at least 400 ml capacity, as the method specifies. Blend only until the ingredients are smooth and thick; prolonged blending softens the ice cream. A spoon works well for a thick milkshake, and the cinnamon finish needs no whipped cream or extra topping.

2. Purple Monster Grape Slush

Makes 2 slushies • estimated 10 minutes with already-frozen grapes; fresh grapes need at least 4 hours extra.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups frozen seedless purple grapes
  • 1 cup (240 ml) purple grape juice, chilled
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Method

  1. Put the frozen grapes, grape juice, lime juice and ice into a blender that can crush ice.
  2. Blend in short pulses, then blend until the grapes and ice form a thick slush. Stop and scrape down if needed; follow your blender instructions.
  3. Divide between two large glasses and serve immediately with spoons or wide reusable straws. Start with fully frozen grapes; freezing fresh grapes takes at least 4 hours and is not included in the 10-minute preparation time.

Freeze the grapes before party time

The ten-minute estimate begins with fully frozen grapes. If you are starting with fresh grapes, allow at least four additional hours for freezing. Wash them under running water, dry them, remove the stems and spread them on a lined tray before freezing. Do this ahead so the drink station is ready when guests arrive.

Let your blender set the limits

Use a blender whose instructions allow ice and frozen fruit, and stay within its fill limit. Pulse first, then blend until the mixture has a thick slushy texture. Switch the machine off before scraping down the sides. Do not force a stalled blender; follow its instructions for thick mixtures. Use two large glasses, leaving room at the rim.

3. Vampire Cherry Floats

Makes 2 floats • estimated 5 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup cherry syrup
  • 1 cup vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup (240 ml) lemon-lime soda, chilled
  • 2 maraschino cherries, drained

Method

  1. Set out two glasses of at least 350 ml capacity. Divide the cherry syrup between them, using 2 tablespoons per glass.
  2. Add 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream to each glass. Slowly add 1/2 cup lemon-lime soda to each, pausing if the foam approaches the rim.
  3. Top each float with one drained cherry. Serve immediately with a spoon.

Leave room for the foam

The order matters: syrup first, then ice cream, then the chilled soda poured slowly. Pause whenever the foam rises toward the rim. Each glass receives two tablespoons of syrup, half a cup of ice cream and half a cup of soda, with one cherry on top. The minimum 350 ml glass size provides room beyond the measured liquid.

Finish one pair at a time

Floats change as soon as the soda touches the ice cream, so assemble these immediately before serving. Set out the empty glasses and measured syrup first, but keep the ice cream frozen and soda chilled until you need them. Remove cherry stems before eating.

Make a small Halloween drink station

The three colors make a striking little menu: pumpkin orange, grape purple and cherry red. Each recipe makes two drinks; they are separate batches, not ingredients to combine. Offer a choice rather than preparing every glass in advance, especially when the drinks contain ice cream or melting ice.

For the faces shown in the still, use removable decorations on the outside of clean glasses, well below the rim. Keep stickers, paper shapes and other non-food decorations away from the drink and from any surface a guest will sip from. The recipe ingredients do not include edible eyes or other face toppings.

Measure the dry or shelf-stable ingredients before guests arrive. Keep the milk and opened pumpkin purée refrigerated, the ice cream frozen, and the fruit frozen until blending. Keep spoons handy for the slush and floats. Place battery-operated lights outside the preparation area if you want a little Halloween glow.

Serve promptly and keep ingredients cold

These drinks are intended to be served immediately. Keep refrigerated ingredients at 40°F / 4°C or below. Do not leave perishable ingredients or finished dairy drinks at room temperature for more than two hours, or one hour if the temperature is above 90°F / 32°C. Discard anything that exceeds those limits.

The milkshake and floats contain dairy. Check the ice cream, syrups, soda and other packaged ingredients for allergens and any dietary requirements that matter to your guests. Do not describe these formulas as allergy-safe merely because the ingredient list looks simple.
