Divide yogurt and syrup before mixing

Measure the pumpkin-layer yogurt and its two tablespoons of maple separately from the larger vanilla-yogurt portion and remaining tablespoon. Mixing those two bowls independently preserves the contrasting layers. Use plain pumpkin puree so its flavor and texture remain separate from an already sweetened pie filling. Prepare all four cups before beginning to layer.

The granola has two placements: some at the bottom and the rest at service. Keep the reserved topping dry until then so it retains more crunch, with the chocolate chips ready beside it. Refrigerate the cups until needed as directed. If making them ahead, accept that the lower granola contacts yogurt and softens; the later topping provides the fresh crisp part.
